Looks like Katie will be coming back to California again soon!  We were just accepted to present a Workshop at the 32st Annual Western Regional California ABA Conference. On Saturday, February 23, 2013, we'll be presenting a 6-hour session at the Orange County Hyatt Regency.

October 16, 2012 - October Recap

We've had an amazing 4 days with Katie and family in town...

On Monday, we presented a 6-hour workshop to 42 educators throughout San Diego County.  The room was filled with public and nonpublic school employees -- teachers, school psychologists,  behavior specialists, and more. It was a very well-received session and we received wonderful feedback.

On Tuesday, our 3-hour Advanced session was directed toward educators that have been using "Self & Match" for 10 or more months.  We had a rich brainstorming discussion and shared with the participants our new "Considerations DURING Implementation" Worksheet. 

After the Advanced session, Katie and Jamie stopped for a quick lunch with an ocean view ("When in Rome...") and then spent the afternoon at North County Academy (NCA).  As described in our June 12 post (http://selfandmatch.blogspot.com/2012/06/june-12-2012.html), NCA uses "Self & Match" as a school-wide intervention for their 6th grade through 12th grade students.  We were truly impressed with the consideration, planning, and innovation NCA has implemented.

On a personal note, it's always a blast getting our kids together.  Needless to say, they loved visiting Bates Nut Farm!

October 1, 2012 - And the Count Down begins...

It's October 1st!  That means only 11 more days until Katie and her family travel to California!  We look forward to our FULL 6 hour Intro Session and our 3 hour Advanced Session.  It's going to be a blast!

September 27, 2012 - New Manuals Arrived!

Jamie received a shipment of manuals from our printer today.  They look AMAZING!  Jamie's (21 month old) son was eager to climb in the box and read the new text that has recently been added to our manual.

Jamie attended the Autism Society of America National Conference today.  Joined an all day session on Quality Autism Programming in Public Schools.  Best part about the day was connecting with colleagues from across the country!

Amazing, fun, interactive group at our "Introduction to 'Self & Match"" training today at the Bucks County IU!  Eclectic group including Special Education teachers, School Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Special Education Supervisors, Instructional Assistants, and a General Education teacher.  Was wonderful returning to "our roots" and hearing about how far "Self & Match" has come over the past 8 years!  Looking forward to our advanced session tomorrow!

Jamie & family are headed to PA today!  We land in Philadelphia around midnight and will be presenting tomorrow at 9am.  Hopefully will grab some coffee ahead of time!  Looks like we have a great group scheduled for our 6 hour Intro session and 3 hour Advanced session at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit (June 21 & 22).

Jamie visited Discovery School today to learn more about their school-wide "Self & Match" system.  It was very impressive!  Collaborated with the principal about ways to optimize their system.  Can't wait to share information with others regarding the system in place at Discovery!

A school in Southern California has adopted "Self & Match" as part of their Tier 1 school-wide intervention.  The Director of the school attended the "Intro to Self & Match" Workshop in January and then meshed it with some of his own ideas to develop a well defined school-wide program based on the "Self & Match" system.  The Discovery School is an educational program that provides research based therapeutic, academic, and behavioral strategies to facilitate positive and lasting change in students.

Today, we presented to an amazing group of Behavior Analysts from all throughout the world.  At our workshop, we had 2 participants from Taiwan, 2 participants from Canada, and several participants from all over America. The training was well-received and we are eager to hear about new "Self & Match" systems that may start popping up throughout the United States and beyond!

It wasn't until we arrived at the convention center that one of our "Self & Match" participants noted that our outfits matched our manual!  No, we did not plan that!

Another “Self & Match” sighting….This time in Ashley Smithey’s 2012 Doctoral Dissertation: “Emotional and Behavioral Disorders in Inclusive Classrooms: A Manual for Educators.”

Jamie dined at George’s in La Jolla with four School Psychology professors from four different universities nationwide.  It was so fun to show them the updated manual!  They strongly encouraged us to pursue formal publishing…It’s definitely in the cards, we just need to find time/energy/motivation to add text to our manual so that a stranger could pick it up and learn how to use “Self & Match”.  Our goal is to have text added to the manual by next February’s annual La Jolla lunch!
